Starting December 1, more people in North Carolina can get health coverage through Medicaid. Now people ages 19 through 64 with higher incomes are eligible, and you may be able to get health care coverage through Medicaid even if you did not qualify before.
Medicaid pays for doctor visits, yearly check-ups, emergency care, dental care, mental health and more – at little or no cost to you.
Visit epass.nc.gov to apply, or contact your local DSS office (in Transylvania County, call 828-884-3174). Please note that it can take up to 45 days to process your application. You may be contacted by mail, phone, email, and/or text message if more information is needed.
For people who currently have limited Family Planning Medicaid: some (but not all) will be automatically enrolled in full Medicaid coverage. Other eligible people should apply starting Dec. 1. Visit ePass.nc.gov to update your info so you don’t miss important details about your benefits. If you are not automatically enrolled for NC Medicaid on Dec 1, but your income has recently changed and you think you may be eligible, contact your local DSS (in Transylvania County, call 828-884-3174).
